With this scheme of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana more than 76 lakhs people have benefitted from this scheme and have opened accounts worth Rs. 3,000 crores. Till November 2017, more than 1.26 crore accounts were opened across the country securing an amount of Rs 19,183 crore.

The government has slashed the minimum annual deposit requirement for accounts under the Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana to Rs 250 from Rs 1,000 – a move that will enable more number of people to take advantage of the girl child savings scheme. – 23 July 2018

Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana: A tax-free saving scheme for a girl child

Any parent or legal guardian of a girl child who is 10 years or below can open this account in the name of the child. In a bid to make this scheme operational, a one year grace period of 11 years has been announced. 

The innovative Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana not only envisages the financial security for every girl child living in the Indian households but also contributes towards making them financially independent.

More About Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana :

The account will also automatically close if the girl child gets married before the completion of the tenure of 21 years. Deposits can be made up to 14 years from the date of opening of the account. After this period the account will only earn interest as per applicable rates.

Premature withdrawal – withdrawing money before the completion of the maturity period of 21 years – can only be made by the girl child in whose name the account has been opened after she attains the age of 18 years.

This withdrawal will also be limited to 50 per cent of the balance standing at the end of the preceding financial year, and will only be allowed for the purpose of higher education or if the girl intends to get married. In order to make a withdrawal, the account should have a deposit of at least 14 years or more.

The parents or the legal guardians of a girl child can open Sukanya Samriddhi Account in the government approved post offices or authorized branches of the commercial banks. The procedure is easy and simple. Important thing which was noticed that it can be opened online as well through an offline method.

Who will open Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account ? 

A Sukanya Samriddhi Account can only be opened by the parent/legal guardian for a maximum of two female children. An exemption is provided by presenting a medical certificate from an authorized medical institution for twins and triplets.

Where to open this account :

This account is opened in the authorized branches of Post Offices or commercial banks like State Bank of India, Bank of Baroda, Punjab National Bank, Bank of India, Canara Bank, Andhra Bank, UCO Bank, and Allahabad Bank, to name a few.

Age Criteria of Sukanya Samriddhi Application : 

A Sukanya Samriddhi account can only be opened for a girl child anywhere between her birth and 10 years of age.

Residential status : 

This account can only be opened for a girl child who is a resident of India. This scheme is unavailable for a girl child having non-resident status.

Even if the parents or the legal guardians are non-residents, then also this scheme will not be available to them.

Account in the name of the girl child : 

Sukanya Samriddhi account must always be opened in the name of a girl child and not in the name of her parents or legal guardians. They will only deposit an amount in the account on behalf of the minor girl child.

Number of accounts : 

A single parent/legal guardian can open only one account for every girl child in the family. A maximum of two accounts for two girl children can be opened in one family.

How is the interest rate on deposits calculated ? 

 Interest at the rate, to be notified by the government, compounded yearly will be credited to the account.

The interest rate of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana follows : 

From April 1, 2014: 9.1%
On April 1, 2015: 9.2%
From April 1, 2016 -June 30, 2016: 8.6%
On July 1, 2016 -September 30, 2016: 8.6%
From October 1, 2016-December 31, 2016: 8.5%
On July 1, 2017- December 31, 2017: 8.3%
From January 1, 2018 – March 31, 2018 : 8.1%
On April 1, 2018 -June 30, 2018: 8.1%

The government fixes interest rates on quarterly basis based on the G-sec yields. The interest rate spread that the SSY enjoys over the G-sec rate of comparable maturity is 75 basis points.

Maximum duration of deposit in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account :

The maximum duration for which a parent/guardian is required to deposit an amount in this account is 14 years. After the end of this duration, no more money is required to be deposited to this account and it will continue to accumulate interest until it matures/closed.

Threshold of deposits in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account : 

Sukanya Samriddhi account can be opened with a minimum deposit of Rs. 250 per account.

A maximum limit on the amount of deposit to this account has been set at Rs.1.50 lakhs per account. There is no limit in the number of deposits in a month or a fiscal year.

Mode of payment of deposits in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana Account : 

The cheque or the demand draft should be in the name of the-

  • For Banks/Financial institutions- Concerned Bank Manager
  • For Post Office-Concerned Postmaster

The parent or the guardian is required to write the girl child’s name and the account number on the back of the cheque or draft while making the payment of deposit.

Taxation aspects of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana : 

The total maturity amount and the interest earned on this account is fully exempted from taxation under section 80C of Income Tax Act 1961 and follows Exempt-Exempt-Exempt (EEE) tax regime. As of now, an amount up to Rs. 1.5 lakh is exempted.

Currently, Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana SSY offers the highest tax-free return with sovereign guarantee and comes with the exempt-exempt-exempt (EEE) status.

The annual deposit (contributions) qualifies for Section 80C benefit and the maturity benefits are non-taxable.

Tenure of account :

This savings account remains active for a maximum period of 21 years from the date of opening of this account, after which the account stops to accrue any interest.

Can the account be transferred Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana ?

Yes, the account can be transferred anywhere in India if the girl child in whose name the account has been opened shifts to a place other than the city or locality where the account stands.

The transfer is free of cost on furnishing the proof of shifting of residence of either the parent/guardian or account holder.

If no such proof is submitted then the applicant has to pay Rs 100 to the post office or the bank to which the transfer is made.

Penalty In Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana : 

A penalty of Rs.50 will be imposed if there is a failure in meeting the minimum deposit requirements in account of Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana. Deposit amount on time otherwise you get penalty.

Closure of Account : Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana

This account gets closed after it attains maturity after completing the tenure of 21 years.

The money lying in this account including the interest is paid to girl child after attaining 18 years of age and on submission of an account closure application along with address and identity proof, proof of residence and citizenship.

Can the account be opened in the name of an NRI girl child ?

Non-resident Indians can no longer open an Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana SSY account.

A girl child is eligible for an Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana SSY account only if she is a resident Indian citizen when the account is opened, and remains so until the maturity or the closure of account.

In fact, if you or your child’s residential status changes to non-resident or she takes up another country’s citizenship during the term of the scheme, no interest shall be paid from the date of citizenship or residential status changes and the account will be considered closed.

Terms related to Sukanya Samriddhi Account

भारत जैसे देश में जहाँ लड़के और लड़कियों में भेद समझा जाता है वहाँ  सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना एक छाते की तरह उन लड़कियों की सुरक्षा कर रहा है | 
भारत में गिरता लिंगानुपात हर वर्ग के लिए चिंता का विषय बन चुका है।
घर में लड़की के जन्म लेते ही उस लड़की के माता-पिता या अभिभावक को उसके शादी और पढाई के खर्चे की चिंता सताने लगती है |
ऐसे में  सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना उन बच्चियों की मदद करता है |
महिलाओं की शिक्षा, स्वास्थ्य और अन्य जरूरतों के लिए सरकार द्वारा कई योजनाएं चलाई जा रही हैं। लड़कियों की शिक्षा को बढ़ावा देने के लिए केंद्र सरकार ने सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना की शुरुआत की है।
केंद्र की मोदी सरकार ने 4 दिसंबर 2014 को बेटियों के लिए छोटी बजट योजनाओं को बढ़ावा देने के मकसद से विशेष जमा योजना ‘सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना’ की शुरुआत की।
सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना केवल बेटियों के लिए है। इसमें बालिका के माता-पिता या संरक्षक बेटी के नाम से खाता खुलवा सकते हैं।


वर्ष 2018-19 का बजट पेश करते हुए तत्कालीन वित्त मंत्री अरुण जेटली ने कहा था कि यह योजना मोदी सरकार की बड़ी सफलताओं में एक है । इसलिए सरकार ने सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना के अकाउंटके नियमो में बदलाव किये है | सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना 2016 में संशोधन कर दिया है। अब इस नए नियम के मुताबिक आप 250 रुपये सालाना जमा करके भी इस योजना में निवेश कर सकते है और इसका पूरा लाभ ले सकते है |

जेटली ने बजट में कहा था कि नवंबर, 2017 तक इस योजना के तहत 1.26 करोड़ खाते खुलवाए गए हैं। इनमें 19,183 करोड़ रुपये जमा हुए हैं। पीपीएफ और अन्य छोटी बचत योजनाओं की तरह इस योजना की ब्याज दर भी तिमाही आधार पर तय होती है।

मोदी सरकार ने जनवरी, 2015 में बेटियों के नाम पर यह बचत योजना शुरू की थी। और अब  केंद्र सरकार ने सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना में सालाना न्यूनतम जमा राशि की सीमा 1,000 रुपये से घटाकर 250 रुपये कर दी है। सरकार के इस कदम से योजना के उपभोक्ताओं की संख्या बढ़ सकती है। और इससे अब उन परिवार के लोगो को भी फायदा मिल सकेगा जो 1,000 रुपये नहीं भर सकते थे |
सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना का उद्देश्य बेटियों की पढ़ाई और उनकी शादी पर आने वाले खर्च को आसानी से पूरा करना है। लड़कियों की पढाई और उनकी शादी गरीब परिवार के लिए सबसे बड़ी समस्या होती थी और इसी वजह से कई बच्चियों की गर्भ में ही हत्या कर दी जाती थी | सरकार की इस योजना के अंतर्गत बेटी की पढ़ाई व शादी के लिए डाक विभाग के पास ‘सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना’ का अकाउंट खुलवाया जा सकता है।
डाक विभाग के किसी भी पोस्ट ऑफिस के साथ अकाउंट खोलने के लिए सुविधा सेंटर में भी अलग काउंटर खुलेगा। यहां जरूरी डॉक्यूमेंट्स जमा कराने के बाद अकाउंट खुलया जा सकेगा। आप यह अकाउंट किसी भी बैंक में भी खुलवा सकते है | बैंको की लिस्ट इसी पेज में निचे दी गयी है |

क्या है योजना ?

  • सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना के अंतर्गत माता-पिता को बेटी के नाम से एक अकाउंट खुलवाना होगा | उस अकाउंट में एक साल में 1 हजार से लेकर 1 लाख पचास हजार रुपए जमा कर सकता है। आप यह अकाउंट किसी भी बैंक या पोस्ट ऑफिस में खुलवा सकते है | आवेदन करने के लिए आपको एप्लीकेशन फॉर्म वही से मिल जायेगा | एप्लीकेशन फॉर्म यहाँ से भी डाउनलोड कर सकते है | डाउनलोड करने के लिए यहाँ पर क्लिक करे |
  • यह पैसा अकाउंट खुलने के 14 साल तक ही जमा करवाना होगा और यह खाता बेटी के 21 साल की होने पर ही मैच्योर होगा। अगर आप यह पैसा निकालना चाहते है तो बेटी के 18 वर्ष होने के बाद आधा पैसा निकलवा सकते है |
  • बेटी के 21 साल होने के बाद यह खाता बंद हो जाएगा और पैसा पालक या उसके माता – पिता को जमा की हुई राशि मिल जाएगी ।
  • अगर बेटी की 18 से 21 साल के बीच में ही शादी हो जाती है तो अकांउट उसी वक्त बंद हो जाएगा।
  • समय से अकाउंट में पैसे न जमा करने पर आपको पैनल्टी भरनी पड़ सकती है | अकाउंट में अगर पेमेंट लेट हुई तो सिर्फ 50 रुपए की पैनल्टी लगाई जाएगी।
  • आप पोस्ट ऑफिस के अलावा भी किसी सरकारी व प्राइवेट बैंक में यह खता खुलवा सकते है | बैंको की लिस्ट निचे प्रदान की गयी है |
  • सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना के तहत खातों पर आयकर कानून की धारा 80-जी के तहत छूट दी जाएगी। यह छूट हर साल बदल भी सकती है | सर्कार इस योजना में लगातार बदलाव करती  | इसलिए हमेशा सही जानकारी रखे |
  • पालक अपनी दो बेटियों के लिए दो अकाउंट भी खोल सकते हैं। आगर किसी पालक की 3 बेटी है तो वह इस योजना का लाभ नहीं ले सकेगा |
  • जुड़वां होने पर उसका प्रूफ देकर ही पालक तीसरा खाता खोल सकेंगे। पालक खाते को कहीं भी ट्रांसफर करा सकेंगे।

  • बच्‍ची का जन्‍म प्रमाणपत्र
  • जमाकर्ता (माता-पिता या अभिभावक) का पहचान पत्र जैसे पैन कार्ड, राशन कार्ड, ड्राइविंग लाइसेंस, पासपोर्ट आदि |

  • पैसे जमा करने के लिए आप नेट-बैंकिंग का इस्‍तेमाल भी कर सकते हैं।
  • खाता खुल जाने पर जिस पोस्‍ट ऑफिस या बैंक में आपने खाता खुलवाया है वह आपको एक पासबुक देता है।

खाता खोलने के लिए जरूरी राशि

सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना में एक खाता 1000 रुपए की शुरुआती जमा राशि से खोला जा सकता है। एक वित्तीय वर्ष में इस खाते में न्यूनतम 1000 रुपए और अधिकतम 1 लाख 50 हजार रुपए जमा किया जा सकेंगे। जो की 2018 में  बदल गया है |

और अब न्यूनतम 250 रुपए  और अधिकतम 1 लाख 50 हजार रुपए जमा किया जासकता है | बेटी के 14 साल की उम्र पूरी होने तक खाते में पैसा जमा कर सकते हैं। 14 वर्ष की आयु के बाद खाते में पैसा नहीं जमा कर सकते हैं।

आयकर में छूट का लाभ

सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना के तहत खुलने वाले खातों को टैक्स से छूट मिलेगी। सुकन्या समृद्धि योजना का खाता देश के किसी भी हिस्से में ट्रांसफर कराया जा सकता है। इस योजना के तहत खुलने वाले खातों को आयकर कानून की धारा 80-जी के तहत छूट दी जाएगी।

खाता कब होगा मेच्योर

बेटी का खाता खोलने की तारीख से 21 वर्ष पूरा होने पर ही खाता मेच्योर होगा। बालिका का विवाह यदि 18 वर्ष के बाद या 21 वर्ष से पहले होता है तो शादी की तारीख के बाद खाता बंद कर दिया जाएगा।

अधिकतम तीन खाते खोले जा सकते हैं

एक व्यक्ति द्वारा अधिकतम दो से तीन खाते खोले जा सकते हैं। इस योजना में दो ही खाते का प्रावधान है लेकिन अगर जुड़ुवा लड़की है तो इस संबंध में आपको प्रमाण पत्र पेश करना होगा जिसके बाद आप तीसरा खाता खुलवा सकते हैं।

अनियमित भुगतान पर जुर्माना

आप अनियमित भुगतान करते है तो आपको 50 रुपये की पेनल्टी लगेगी |

There are a few drawbacks.

  • The time period of the deposit amount in Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is long. If we compared to other financial products which are available in market till date.
  • This scheme Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana is only for those parent or guardian who have only two daughter. But suppose any parent have 3 girl child then he did not get Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana benefit.
  • The scheme Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana have a great fault which is you can not deposit amount online. In today generation everyone want to pay online from anywhere.
